In new ad, Houston mayor attacks election opponent who donated $500,000 to Trump

On Monday, the race for Houston mayor heated up with incumbent mayor, Sylvester Turner, airing a negative ad targeting one of his opponents in the November election.

The ad, titled “Noise,” paints Tony Buzbee as a Trump “imitator, a “copycat,” and a major fundraiser — and funder of — for the president.

“We elected a president in 2016 who had a big checkbook, no relevant experience and certainly none of the values we cherish in Houston,” Turner campaign spokesperson Sue Davis said in a statement. “Now, one of his biggest Texas supporters wants to be our mayor. Tony Buzbee hosted a multimillion dollar fundraiser for Trump’s campaign and Buzbee himself donated $500,000 to Trump’s presidential inauguration committee. Houston prides itself on its diversity and respect for all people; there is no way we can accept someone who shares Trump’s values as our mayor.”
