In 2018, FOX News radio asked Allen West, a former member of Congress from Florida who now lives in Dallas, if he was going to run for public office again.

“You’re probably going to see me get back in there after this election cycle,” West responded. “So a lot of people are pressuring me to do that, a lot of folks in Texas encouraging me to do that so we will probably make that happen.”

Reporting last month by Inside Elections was more fleshed out. “West has been mentioned as Senate candidate but also as a challenger in the 32nd District, where freshman Democrat Colin Allred is running for re-election,” wrote the magazine.

The Texas Signal reached out to West, who now works at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, about his potential political ambitions. We did not hear back.

West, a decorated military veteran, is a Tea Party conservative who once represented the Boca Raton area in Congress. He seems to put a premium on character.

“I tell the truth and I stand on convictions and you know what you’re getting,” he has said.

West was recently elected to a second three-year term as a member of the national board of directors of the National Rifle Association. He is a Fox News contributor, writes for Townhall.com, and is author of Guardian of the Republic: An American Ronin’s Journey to Faith, Family and Freedom.

Should West run for the U.S. Senate, he would be challenging incumbent senator John Cornyn. The Conservative Review has named Cornyn a RINO (Republican In Name Only).

Cornyn, first elected to the Senate in 2002, struggled in his last GOP primary in 2014. He earned just 59 percent in the Republican primary against seven nominal challengers, including former Rep. Steve Stockman, who is now in federal prison. By contrast, Sen. Ted Cruz earned more than 85 percent of the vote in his March 2018 primary.

West, whom the mainstream media has dubbed “insane,” is an avid Trump supporter. “I seriously hope the progressive socialist left continues their incessant blather because all it does is help ensure the reelection of @POTUS @realDonaldTrump,” he wrote on Twitter.

Immigration is a major issue for the former congressman, who has said, “[I]llegal immigration issue is a threat to our sovereign nation.”
