Just in: Texas congressman to file articles of impeachment against Trump tonight

by | Jul 16, 2019 | Politics

Rep. Al Green of Houston is expected to officially file articles of impeachment against the president.

More than 80 members of the House support an impeachment inquiry. But Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, has said previously this is not the right time to begin such proceedings.

It’s not yet clear if Green’s filing will go anywhere. It’s his third time to files articles of impeachment.

“I think that we should not have this level of bigotry emanating from the president of the United States of America,” Green said in an interview with The Washington Post. “He is clearly making racist comments… The question becomes: what do we do about it?”

Separately, the House passed a resolution Tuesday night condemning Trump’s racist tweets.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
