The Signal spoke via livestream to pollster Jay Campbell, a partner at Hart Research, in Washington, D.C. Some highlights from our conversation:
- Texas is in a “really good position” right now for Democrats in 2020, though it won’t be easy, Campbell says. The state would need the right investment of time and money.
- Trump isn’t doing so hot in the Lone Star State, even though the economy nationally (and in Texas) is doing pretty good. We talk about why that is. There’s “so much wrong with him personally,” voters say.
- Independents are still important in the hyper-partisan world we live in!
- It’s not clear who is “winning” on immigration at the moment. At the national level, most Americans think immigration is good for the country. But the GOP wants fewer immigrants into the U.S.
