On Tuesday July 9, Texans in the wake of Hurricane Beryl had their first full day to assess the damage of the Category 1 storm. Millions of customers remain without power as temperatures are expected to rise to a heat index of 105 degrees.

Beryl made landfall near the small coastal town of Matagorda, about 100 miles outside of Houston. The damage the storm brought as it traveled through the state was extensive. In total, over 2.7 million lost power, and three people died.

CenterPoint Energy, the utility company for Harris County, announced that an additional 1 million customers should have their power restored by Wednesday evening. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who is the acting governor while Greg Abbott remains on a planned trip in Asia, warned that many Texans could expect a “multi-day” process to get their power restored. KHOU-11 has an extensive tracker of current outages.
