The Future Project 2025 Envisions
While the drama surrounding President Biden appears to have reached a fever-pitch, with no clear sign of what’s to come, Donald Trump’s campaign churns along. And as the former president looks to reclaim his past position, Project 2025 has emerged as a visceral siren for what another Trump White House could look like.
Project 2025, also known as the Presidential Transition Project, is essentially a blueprint for running the government under a new Trump presidency. The plans, which are a set of policy recommendations pertaining to government agencies that runs nearly 1,000 pages, are all available online. The conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation is the principal organization behind Project 2025, though they also boast over a hundred other rightwing partners including America First Legal, Moms for Liberty, The Texas Public Policy Foundation and Tea Party Patriots.
On his Truth Social account, Trump claimed that he had “no idea” who is behind Project 2025 and has “nothing to do with them.” Trump can claim he has no knowledge about Project 2025, but according to Popular Information over 81 percent of the authors on the blueprint worked in his previous administration.
The Director of Project 2025 is Paul Dans, who was the Chief of Staff at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management during the Trump administration. Other authors that contributed to Project 2025 include Russ Vought (Trump’s Director of the Office of Management and Budget), Ben Carson (Trump’s Housing and Urban Development Secretary) and Peter Navarro, a Deputy Assistant to Trump who is now serving a prison sentence for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena over January 6th.
The foreword for Project 2025, sub-titled “A Promise to America”) is written by Kevin Roberts, the President of the Heritage Foundation. He made headlines last week when he appeared on a conservative radio show and said we are in the midst of a second American Revolution, “which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”
Media Matters unearthed a 2022 speech Trump made at a conference for the Heritage Foundation just before Roberts took over as president. “He’s going to be so incredible,” said Trump.
In his foreword about Project 2025, Roberts says that the agenda is “prepared by and for conservatives who will be ready on Day One of the next Administration to save our country.” Roberts then provides a broad overview of the thirty chapters that fit under four main planks of a conservative future.
Under that first pillar, restoring the family, Roberts proposes eliminating a whole host of terms from federal regulations including: sexual orientation, gender identity, gender equality, gender equity, abortion, reproductive health, and reproductive rights. He also calls for pornography to be outlawed. He also writes that the Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade, was “just the beginning.”
As Roberts continues laying out an agenda to advance these four pillars, more recommendations unfold including removing thousands of “bureaucrats” from the federal government, sealing the border, stamping out clean energy, and ending all vestiges of “wokeism.”
In the coming weeks Texas Signal will be taking a closer look at Project 2025 and how its implementation would impact the lives of everyday Texans.
